The Final Call, (Part 3): Finding Hope in the Hour of Judgment

The Final Call, Part 3: Finding Hope in the Hour of Judgment

Scripture: "Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come..." (Revelation 14:7)

In our previous posts, we explored the Everlasting Gospel (the good news that never fades) and what it truly means to Fear God and Give Glory (living a life of reverence and reflection).

Now, we arrive at the central reason for this urgency—the motivation behind the call. The angel announces a specific event on the divine timeline: "The hour of His judgment has come."

For many, the word "judgment" triggers anxiety. We imagine a courtroom, a gavel, and a list of our past mistakes. But when viewed through the lens of the Everlasting Gospel, the judgment is not a moment of doom for the believer; it is a moment of vindication.

The Courtroom in Heaven
The First Angel isn't predicting a judgment that will happen someday in the distant future; he is announcing a reality that is happening now.

In the biblical worldview, judgment is actually a form of deliverance. In the Psalms, David often cries out, "Judge me, O Lord!" He wasn't asking to be condemned; he was asking for his cause to be upheld against his enemies.

The investigative judgment is the time when God reveals to the watching universe who has accepted the robe of Christ’s righteousness. It is the final step in eradicating sin from the universe and confirming the citizens of God's kingdom.

A View from the Sanctuary: Spirit of Prophecy Perspective
Spirit of Prophecy writes extensively on this period of history. She emphasizes that while this is a solemn time that calls for deep introspection, it is also the time when Christ’s work as our High Priest is most vital.

In The Great Controversy, she describes the scene:

"Jesus does not excuse their sins, but shows their penitence and faith, and, claiming for them forgiveness, He lifts His wounded hands before the Father and the holy angels, saying: I know them by name. I have graven them on the palms of My hands."

She further notes the gravity of the time we are living in:

"The judgment is now passing in the sanctuary above. For many years this work has been in progress. Soon—none know how soon—it will pass to the cases of the living. In the awful presence of God our lives are to come up in review... It is of infinite importance to everyone."

Cause and Effect: Jesus’s Service and Our Confidence
Following the structure of the sanctuary, we see a clear cause-and-effect relationship:
  1. The Cause: Jesus enters the Most Holy Place to minister as our High Priest and Advocate.
  2. The Effect: His service leads to the confirmation of God’s truth and the fulfillment of His promises to save us.

Because Jesus is the one facing the Judge on our behalf, we don't have to rely on our own merits. The "Hour of Judgment" is simply the time when the universe officially recognizes that our debt has been paid by Him.
Living with "Judgment Awareness"

Knowing that we are living in the "hour of His judgment" changes how we navigate our daily lives. It pulls us out of the trivial and into the eternal.

It reminds us that:
  • Our choices matter: History is moving toward a conclusion.
  • We are not alone: We have an Advocate who has never lost a case.
  • Truth will win: God is setting things right.

The Takeaway:
Don't let the word "judgment" drive you to fear. Let it drive you to Jesus. If your life is hid in Him, the judgment is the announcement of your victory.

Next Up: In the final part of our First Angel's Message series, we will look at the call to Worship the Creator—a message more relevant today than ever before.
