Mission Matters October 6

Inspiration for the Week

Bible Verse

Acts 4:31 - And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Inspiration

Evangelism, p. 168. “Most startling messages will be borne by men of God’s appointment, messages of a character to warn the people, to arouse them... we must also have, in our cities, consecrated evangelists through whom a message is to be born so decidedly as to startle the hearers.”

Bibles for the Republic of Georgia

In Georgia, almost all Bibles are in an ancient dialect of the Georgian language, which nobody speaks. As a result, people have to ask their priests what the Bible means, and many of the priests can’t read this ancient language. Furthermore, if you want to purchase a Bible, you have to buy a large desk Bible, which is way too heavy to carry around, and this has the books of the Apocrypha within it.

The local Bible society does have a modern translation of the Bible into the Georgian language, and it can be printed without the Apocrypha. The cost is $50,000 for 5,000 Bibles (the smallest print run possible). During our recent Mission Emphasis Weekend at the church, a local donor from the Loma Linda area came forward with a pledge of up to $25,000 to fund the printing of these Bibles. If these Bibles are printed, AFM will donate 500 to the local SDA Mission in Georgia – which has about 100 members, mostly in the capital city of Tbilisi, and will use the rest to distribute to the members of the underground Bible study groups who are studying by themselves or under the leadership of AFM personnel.

Donations are sought to match the $25,000 pledge to raise the total needed of $50,000. All donations should be made to the Mentone Seventh-day Adventist Church. Our treasurer will then forward them to AFM for the Bible printing. Any funds received in excess of the target amount will be used for the Padilha career missionary family when they serve in the Republic of Georgia.

You can give securely online at AdventistGiving.org (at the bottom of the Local Church Giving Category choose Bibles for Georgia) or by using an offering envelope and writing Bibles for Georgia.

Thank you for impacting countless lives with your gift!

Giving Light to Our World (GLOW)

“WE SHOULD IMPROVE EVERY SUCH OPPORTUNITY AS THAT PRESENTED BY THE ST. LOUIS FAIR. AT ALL SUCH GATHERINGS THERE SHOULD BE PRESENT MEN WHOM GOD CAN USE. LEAFLETS CONTAINING THE LIGHT OF PRESENT TRUTH SHOULD BE SCATTERED AMONG THE PEOPLE LIKE THE LEAVES OF AUTUMN. TO MANY WHO ATTEND THESE GATHERINGS THESE LEAFLETS WOULD BE AS THE LEAVES OF THE TREE OF LIFE, WHICH ARE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS.”
— EVANGELISM, PG. 36
This month’s emphasis is Protestant Reformation! October 31st is the anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. It was started more than 500 years ago, in a large way by Martin Luther posting his 95 Theses in Wittenberg, Germany. Those 95 Theses were reprinted and distributed all over. The goal this month is to distribute 95 tracts!

Conversation Question: “Have you or anyone you know ever had a supernatural experience (e.g., believed they saw a ghost, had an encounter with an angel, etc.)?”

Creative Ideas from GLOW Ministry:

  • Make packets of health-related GLOW; tie them with pink ribbons and share throughout the month or place GLOW tags all over town.
  • Raise funds to go to a Taco Bell or Mexican restaurant on Taco Day, and buy tacos to give away with GLOW.
  • Smile to strangers all day long on World Smile Day, and give away a GLOW to whoever
  • smiles back and say, “Happy Smile Day!” Columbus Day: Create a “Community Explorer Map” to guide church friends to GLOW.
  • Get or make a nice gift for your boss, give them GLOW on Boss's Day, and say “Happy Boss’s Day!”
  • Participate in GLOW in the Dark outreach with your local church on Halloween.
