Chapter 1 Highlights

Highlights from Chapter 1

The goal of every  Christian is to be like Jesus.

Here are some verses that talk about Discipleship:

Matthew 10:24, 25 - The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord.

Luke 6:40 - The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

Luke 14:26, 27 - If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

Luke 14:33 - So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

"With such a cost, why would we want to follow Jesus? Quite simply, because we love Him! We surrender all to follow Jesus because we have found the “pearl of great price” (Matthew 13:46). We have had our hearts changed by the unconditional love of a crucified Savior. “For the love of Christ compels us” (2 Corinthians 5:14). “We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). The book Steps to Christ reminds us that “when . . . love springs up in the heart,” it makes every burden light. “Duty becomes a delight, and sacrifice a pleasure” ( Steps to Christ, p. 59)."
